A study of the Gunpowder Plot is hardly complete with a study of the complex family relationships which existed between the band of plotters themselves, and also between the plotters and other members of the contemporary society, including the catholic and non-catholic landed gentry and nobility.

The Gunpowder Plot Society website includes a comprehensive family tree database which shows how the principal plotters were related to each other and to other people who feature in the story of the Gunpowder Plot. After clicking on an individual's name to view the family data for that individual, you can then click on the name of any member of their family to see a similar set of data for that person.

Below is a list of the names of the thirteen "principal" plotters. Click on a person's name to go directly to the database entry for that person. Alternatively, you can browse through indexes to find an entry for the person you are looking for. The indexes are arranged in two ways: one is by SURNAMES, and the other is by INDIVIDUAL names. You can find the links to these two indexes below the list of plotters' names.

This database is continually being updated, and new names are always welcome. If you have any information that you think could be included in the database, please feel free to e-mail us.

  1. Principal Conspirators in the Gunpowder Plot
The thirteen men whom history regards as the main Gunpowder Plot conspirators

  2. Individual Index
This index is a handy way to search the database for the name of an individual person
    whose name you already know.

  3. Surname Index
Use this index if you are searching for a general surname, and would like to find if there
is anyone in the database with that surname.

  • Notes regarding the database A customised Perl script was used to generate the HTML files in this database from a GEDCOM file exported by a genealogy software program called The Master Genealogist.
