Posted - 08/09/2006 : 18:25:09 I am new to your site. I am an author and am currently doing research for a novel surrounding the circumstances particular to your society. Previous material I read led me to believe that the Gunpowder Plot had a varying motive. Basically, King James' appointment of his new translation of scriptures had outraged certain members of the Catholic society, that the King's version would be available to all people instead of being exclusively in the hands of priests, etc, that this would offer a freedom for laity to be able to search scriptures for themselves instead of looking solely to the church leaders for interpretation of God's will for man. I understood that this was one of the motives for trying to stop the production of the Authorized Version. Where does this motive fit in... in your opinion? Or does it?
