The Wright family - in England/Scottland and inNorway.
My interest in the Gunpowder plot is linked to the fact that members of the Wright family participated in it. On a genealogy Forum in Norway (in fact on several) we have had some discussions about the Wright familiy in Norway and its origin. The known fact is that Realph Christian Wright came to Larvik, a small town in the south-east part of Norway in the second halv of the 17 century. The story runs roughly as follows : Wright. This family are claimed to be originally of Scottish origin, as the ancestor Realph/Rialph Christian Wright is said to have come to Norway in 1673, settled in Larvik and became a steward at Fritze ironworks. It is said that he came from Scottland, Aberdeen. Realph Wright (he may possibly have been settled for some time in Denmark) was called by the Danish Count Gyldenlve (means actually The Golden Lion/aj) to start sawmills and furnace at the Frits workshop in Larvik, and so came with the Count to Norway. Realph Christian Wright is one of my ancestors. The point is that this Danish Count, an illegitime son of the Danish king, was the actal ruler of Larvik county throughout his lifetime. It is reasonable to assume that the people he took into his service as leading personel did not come from some common families, but rather from families connected with power in Denmark in one way or another. The link to The Gunpowder plot is interesting, assuming that the Wright family involved might have been from Scottish-related Clans and ? if they escaped to Denmark could be politically linked to higher circles in Denmark.
The latest point in our discussion here in Norway was made on 07.03.06 in a new message from an t.wright.h on our Forum of Grenland ttehistorielag on Wright (http://www.grenlandslekt.no/phorum): In short it runs as follows : It names a link to a a page on The Gunpowder Plot Society. He says that according to his grandmothers aunt and her old family history , written down in 1943, the ancestor of the family, Thomas Wright, and possibly a brother of his as well escaped to Denmark in 1604. A number of the family Wright in Northumberland emigrated as well, he says. He points to this special link and says that by following this link it should be possible to trace the relatives and ancestors of Realph Wright.
I have read somewhere ells too, that lots of people were forced to emigrate from Northumberland and Scotland after the Plot. The year mentioned 1604 might be a small slip of the memory through the hundreds of years of told history before it was written down in 1943.
My question is : Do anyone have more information on the Wright family to link it to the persdons claimed to have gone to Denmark Thomas Wright and his brother and later Realph Christian Wright to Denmark. I find genealogy most interesting when it is possible to connect it to the history as eventually would be possible in this case, by eventually linking it to The Gunpowder Plot and the story of the fight for power in England and Scotland between the catolics and the Protestants.
