- According to the Life of Mary Ward by Winefrid Wigmore, Marmaduke Ward was "of Givendale, in the County of York. Mulwith and Newby were Manor-houses of his." S13
Some of Spink's information regarding the family of Marmaduke and Thomas Ward appears to be a bit speculative in nature. However, I have presented this information as he gives it in his book, and have substantiated it with further source citations where possible.
Note also that some common spelling variations which occur in the story of this family are: Warde/Ward, Mulwaith/Mulwith and Rippon/Ripon. S13
Spink argues that Ursula Ward died in 1588 and that all of Marmaduke Ward's subsequent children were from a second marriage to Elizabeth Sympson. I have followed this hypothesis. S13
