Oswald Tesmond (Tesimond) seems to play a small but interesting role as the first open contact between the conspiritors and the Jesuits. According to www.british-history.ac.uk archives, his alias was Greenwell. This was a fairly established and strongly Catholic family near Durham. Does it seem more likely that Tesimond or Greenwell would be his birthname? Were aliases common for Jusuits to protect familynames or a matter of custom?

Does anyone know of any additional information about this individual? He seems to be one of the few who faced interrogation but managed to escape.
